I used BeTheme last month for a small furniture shop that wanted “just a cleaner design” and then, of course, asked for wishlists, swatches, mega menu, sticky header, landing pages, and a blog that didn’t look like it escaped from 2014.
My setup was boring: WordPress 6.5, WooCommerce, PHP 8.2, LiteSpeed Cache, ACF, Rank Math, and a client who kept uploading 6 MB hero images from an iPhone. Perfect crime scene.
BeTheme is huge. Not “a bit flexible” huge. I mean there are settings for settings. The main stuff lives in Betheme -> Theme Options, and the builder is Muffin Builder unless you decide to suffer with Elementor on top of it.
I liked the demo importer more than I expected. It’s under Betheme -> Pre-built Websites, and for once it didn’t leave me with half a homepage and broken placeholder images. Still, after import I had to clean the usual junk: duplicate menus, demo widgets, fake portfolio posts, and five font variants nobody asked for.
A lot of the client-facing edits were fine inside the admin.
Typography is in Betheme -> Theme Options -> Fonts -> Family / Size & Style. Header layout is under Theme Options -> Header & Subheader. WooCommerce tweaks sit in Theme Options -> Blog, Portfolio & Shop -> Shop.
For quick landing pages, BeTheme is honestly a lifesaver. Muffin Builder sections are ugly as UI, but fast. I built a product category landing page with tabs, icon boxes, testimonials, and a custom CTA without writing layout CSS from scratch. That part felt good.
Mobile spacing was less fun. Some margins were buried inside individual section settings, others came from global responsive rules. I ended up using Appearance -> Customize -> Additional CSS for small fixes, because hunting every Muffin section padding felt like unpaid therapy.
I opened Chrome DevTools, went straight to the Network tab, filtered by CSS and fonts, and yeah — BeTheme was loading more than I wanted. On first import I saw multiple Google Font weights, Font Awesome, theme CSS, WooCommerce CSS, plus slider assets even on pages without sliders.
The fix was not “install cache plugin and pray”. I went to Betheme -> Theme Options -> Performance and disabled unused theme features. Then in LiteSpeed Cache I excluded the cart, checkout, and account pages from aggressive JS delay.
Console also complained about a lazy-loaded slider init firing before the element existed. Classic. Nothing fatal, just annoying noise that makes debugging real issues harder.
Here’s the dumb one: with JS minification and delay enabled, product variations stopped updating. Size changed, price didn’t. Add to cart button acted drunk.
The fix in LiteSpeed was to exclude:
/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.min.js
wc-add-to-cart-variation
wc-cart-fragments
I also stopped delaying inline WooCommerce scripts on single product pages. After that, BeTheme behaved. Not elegant, but stable.
If you run WP Rocket instead, same idea: don’t defer or delay Woo variation scripts unless you enjoy fake bug reports from clients.
Some things in BeTheme are not “builder problems”. They are template problems.
Header markup is mostly tied to header.php and theme includes under /wp-content/themes/betheme/includes/. For WooCommerce templates, check /wp-content/themes/betheme/woocommerce/ before blaming Woo itself.
I had to override product badge output by copying the Woo template into the child theme and adjusting the markup there. For small theme hooks, I used the child theme functions.php, mainly filters around Woo notices and breadcrumb output.
Do not edit the parent theme unless you enjoy losing work during updates. I know, obvious, but I still see people doing it in 2026. What were they thinking?
BeTheme can be fast enough, but not if you import a demo and leave everything enabled like a tourist.
The DOM can get chunky fast with nested Muffin Builder sections. On my homepage I had to remove two decorative wrappers and replace an animated counter block with plain HTML because Lighthouse was yelling about layout shifts.
I also disabled unused icons and sliders from Betheme -> Theme Options -> Addons & Plugins where possible. Then I checked coverage in DevTools to see which CSS was mostly dead weight. Not perfect, but the page stopped feeling like it was dragging a fridge.
BeTheme includes WordPress code distributed under the GNU GPL, but I still treat client installs like paid commercial work: keep purchase records, follow vendor terms, and don’t play games with support/update access.
When I update before deployment, I usually do it manually on staging: download the fresh package, upload the zip via Appearance -> Themes -> Add New -> Upload Theme, or push it over SFTP if the server upload limit is stupid. Then I compare the child theme overrides, clear cache, test cart/checkout, and only then push live.
Yes, mostly around WooCommerce JS. Exclude variation/cart scripts from delay and test single product pages manually.
Check Theme Options -> Responsive -> Header first. If that fails, inspect .mobile-menu and override in the child theme CSS.
You can, but don’t mix builders on the same page unless you like bloated markup and mystery spacing.
Start in /betheme/woocommerce/, then copy the needed file into your child theme. Don’t hack the parent.
